Simufact
Additive is a powerful and scalable process
simulation environment for optimizing laser fusion flat fusion
processes. Examples of simulating all the steps of the AM process key that
began with the "printing" of that part continued with heat treatment,
cutting part of the plate, and removing support structures, in addition to the
combined pressure and heat process (HIP) , Are features of this software . In this application, modeling using CAD data in an
innovative user interface graphics and in accordance with the actual process of the work
done. The Simufact Additive offers a completely intuitive method that
begins by defining the overall process by specifying the component and support
components.
Key features of the Simufact Additive software :
- Conceptual interface for Agile Modeling (AM)
- Compatible with 3D printing machines
- Automatic and fast automatic design independent of complexity of structure
- Automatic adjustment of a simulation based on construction information
- Coordinating the modeling process In accordance with the actual process flow
- Calculate the deformation of the final section

Simufact Additive is a powerful and scalable process
simulation environment for the "right first time" optimization of
laser powder bed fusion processes. Features include simulation of all the
key AM process steps starting with 'printing' of the part; followed by
heat treatment, cutting off the build plate and removing supporting structures,
plus heat and pressure combined processes (HIP). The initial release of
the Simufact Additive will predict the final distortion and residual stresses
of the metal 3D printed parts; future functional enhancements will
introduce additional features.
The model is implemented using
CAD data in an innovative and newly-developed Graphical User Interface (GUI)
environment aligned with the actual process workflow. Simufact Additive
provides an intuitive approach that begins with defining the general process by
determining the component and support components through the definition of
manufacturing parameters up to the analysis settings and ultimate
results. The software helps to compensate for distortion, minimize
residual stresses and optimize the process parameters.
The concept behind the software is that it provides the foundation for a wide range of variability and scalability through different levels of detail. This includes both a fast mechanical method for predicting distortion and residual stresses up to a fully thermo-mechanically coupled transient analysis, which will be released soon. This will determine the temperature history and derivative properties like the microstructure. The properties of the final part are available for further structural simulations.
New Graphical User Interface (GUI) concept for AM Modelling
Simufact Additive comes with an intuitive and user-friendly GUI. The flexible GUI concept allows machine and application-specific dialogs to be aligned with the actual process workflow. A meshing capability is included for the automatic and rapid discretization of even large and complex structures of any shape. The GUI is set to smoothly handle these meshes that can easily reach more than a million elements.
Collaboration with 3D printing machine supplier
Renishaw plc, a leading manufacturer of advanced metal AM systems, is the first 3D printing machine vendor to collaborate with Simufact in the common goal of an integrated approach. The goal is a fully-simulation-based optimization leading to the best quality build file. Initially, Renishaw's QuantAM build-up software will be coupled with Simufact process simulation software and enable data exchange using QuantAM's open API (application programming interface). The next step is to automatically set-up a simulation based on the build information and in return to display the simulation results in Renishaw's QuantAM build build software. The first results of this collaboration will be published and presented at the major European additive manufacturing show, Formnext 2016, Frankfurt, this November.
